Content encompasses so many parts of your marketing strategy including blogs, social media posts, emails, newsletters, visual collateral, infographics, videos, websites, and even presentations. A detailed content marketing strategy requires a lot of planning, but there are a few things that can help you make the most of everything you publish.
As content editor, my job is to produce engaging, quality written content for The Social Bullpen and our clients.
Here are my three tips to improve your content today.
1. Make sure you are providing value for your audience. Since it is such a visible representation of your business, every piece of content needs to be high quality and provide value to your audience. We have discussed the importance of knowing your audience before. If you don’t know them, it’s hard to create content that will target them. Figure out your who, what, where, and how, and use that as the basis for everything you write.
2. Proofread. This cannot be over-emphasized. Just like small details make a difference in your website, social media, and graphic design, sloppy writing can make a big difference in your written content. Proofread, proofread, and then proofread again. Before you hit, “post,” make sure you have checked for mistakes. Examine each document for typos and misspellings, verify links, and check sources. After you have gone over everything with a fine-tooth comb, send it someone else on your team so they can proofread. It’s easy to overlook mistakes in your own writing, so it’s very important to have a second set of eyes (or more) on every piece of content. It can be tempting to get in a rush and avoid this step, but please don’t. Any extra time used for proofreading can make the difference in sloppiness and professionalism.
3. Repurpose. You don’t need to reinvent the wheel for every piece of written content. Think of ways to repurpose what you have already created. This is especially useful when it comes to social media and blogs. Instead of starting from scratch, make the most of what you already have. If you know you are providing value and producing quality content, get creative and use it in different ways.
Create a schedule. You need a plan! Creating a content calendar is vital for keeping your content organized and avoiding a last-minute panic.
Stay true to your brand. This is always important and written content is no exception. Remember that everything you publish is a visible reflection of your business. Avoid confusing your audience by remaining on brand.
If you feel overwhelmed or have questions, we are here to help! The team at The Social Bullpen can create a custom strategy for your content and other marketing needs.
