5 Things We Love About Marketing
Updated: Feb 18
It’s Valentine’s Day and love is all around us. We may be a little biased, but we think there are many things to love about marketing.
Marketing is essential to placing a product or service in front of the right people in the right place at the right time. It is a tool that attracts and retains customers and supports a company’s goals and objectives through strategies and tactics.
As practitioners at an outsourced marketing firm, we are responsible for all aspects of the marketing process. We each have different roles and skills, but we share a love for the work we do. From research through implementation, we have learned to work together to achieve our goals and the goals of our clients.
While our list of tasks may be long, there are a few things that we really enjoy.
So, what does the team at The Social Bullpen love about marketing? Here are five things:
Marketing provides a great opportunity to get creative, whether in the design process or thinking of different strategies and tactics to showcase a business. Marketers never stop thinking of new and different ideas.
Morgan, our graphic designer, particularly enjoys the creative aspects of each day. “Working in marketing, specifically graphic design, has allowed me to have creative freedom and exercise design muscles I didn’t even know I had,” she said. “I love being able to pivot throughout the day and handle different projects and clients. Marketing is an ever-changing field that requires you to continue to learn and be creative and I love that.”

Good content is essential to standing out in a sea of competition. It is crucial to any good marketing plan. Great content informs, entertains, or inspires. It sets the tone for a business, supports branding, and engages audiences.
Our content creator, Drew, is especially fond of this element of marketing, which is a good thing since he spends so much time creating content for websites and other online platforms.
“My favorite thing about content is being able to create and provide information about our industry and our client’s industries,” said Drew. "I also enjoy being able to share our brand online. Being able to promote ourselves is something that I take pride in!”

For an industry that is constantly changing, flexibility is key. One way that is particularly evident is through social media. Fortunately, Mackenzie, social media strategist, thrives at remaining flexible. She is constantly learning new techniques and strategies to optimize social media management and increase engagement across channels. “The flexibility of marketing, especially with social media, allows me to get creative and experiment. When something works, keep it. When it doesn’t, shut it down,” she said. “Social media continues to be a fast-paced ever-changing field that makes every day new and exciting.”

We get to build relationships with our clients so we can better understand and meet their marketing needs. As content editor, Leah is very thankful for those connections.
“Getting to know clients’ voices and understanding more about their company culture is such a fun part of marketing,” she said.
“Telling the client story not only allows us to promote products, but it can lead to some meaningful conversations. If you find a way to genuinely connect with clients or customers, growth will be a natural byproduct.”

Finally, value may be our favorite thing about marketing and is something we are all very passionate about. It’s so important that Betsy, our CEO and founder, made it a core principle of The Social Bullpen. Good marketing provides value to both the business and the customer. "We provide value to our clients by finding or creating solutions that work for them, their needs, and their budget” she said. “We don't just implement the latest and greatest tip, trick, or tool -- if it doesn't provide value to the client, we don't do it."

These are just a few of the things we love about marketing. If you don’t love marketing and would like our help, we would love to talk to you.
